Jalapeno`s Taqueria in Soutd Lake Tahoe

Want to give our local taco place 5 stars, but, for God sakes... how can they mix up phone in orders EVERY TIME? for TWO years. Always something wrong: “no cheese or sour cream on ANY dish please” means “sour cream on two, and cheese one a third”. “Please our guac in the side” means “our double guac in top and spread it out”. Things can be a bit slow, but the food, chips, and home made salsa are top notch. Chipotle chicken burrito special is the bomb. I just WISH they could get a simple phone order (repeated 3x) right for once... in our lives...

Such a great place!My sister just move to South Lake and we decided, stupidly, to venture into Heavenly Village for lunch the day after New Year's day thinking we would find parking. No dice on that.So we headed back to my sister's and found this place. Some dishes are better than others, but it provides the straight forward west coast burrito and some more confusing, yet still delicious, dish like hard shelled tacos. However, the carnitas were totally off the mark. Carnitas should be shredded and fried and yummy. The plate I got was firm, chopped up morsels. It tasted ok, don't get me wrong, but it didn't qualify as carnitas based on my experiences elsewhere and resulting home cooking experiences.

Tacos were amazing!! The combo 6 Burrito and Enchilada plate is an amazing deal for amount of food given.

Decent food but be prepared to wait for your food (not all that fast) & check to make sure what you ordered is what you got. 9 times out of 10 I am given the wrong items. This morning I ordered an "h" steak burrito no pico & a large side of beans & rice. What I received-2 chorizo burritos & 2 sides of rice. Just be sure to check before you leave the restaurant.

Horrible food. All our dishes were drowning in the same red enchilada sauce. A lot of just strange, nasty tastes...The floors were dirty, food all over place. Unbussed tables. Salsa's water downed and extremely over salted. Paper plates, plastic cutlery. The place not crowded on a Sunday at 5 pm.

Small hole in the wall but delicious. As authentic as possible in TAHOE:) we expected something tex-mex but were pleasantly surprised!

Amazing authentic food!!! The breakfast burritos are some of the best I’ve ever had!! The free chips and salsas are really delicious too! If you’re looking for a place to eat in South Lake Tahoe that’s pretty cheap and close to the lake, swing into Jalepenos!!! It is absolutely delectable!!!!

Tasty enchiladas, the sauce was nice and they were really cheesy!

I ordered of of their *new item menu* I got the Chipotle chicken bowl. I was pleasantly surprised by the dish. Its pretty much a salad bowl. The beans and chicken were great. I would like to go back when I'm in the area and try their buche or tamales to seal the deal.

Real decent food, typical pricing. Very convenient stop for quick casual meal if heading to/ back from Tahoe Basin area, but can get very busy, with a wait time of up to 15 minutes.

Called ahead of time to order and they hadnt even started making the food when i arrived 5 minutes after. The front guy had the audacity to give me attitude when i asked why it wasn’t ready yet. Would not recommend calling in to order

Great place for a quick meal. We ordered and had our food in less than 10 min. The food was delicious and the portions were huge. We ordered two chimichanga combo plates and left with a full to go box.

No masks by employees or customers. After we gor a mile down the road realized they messed up our order and wifes supposed vegetarian burrito had chorizo.

The best menudo I’ve ever had, tons of meat and full of flavor. My husband loved the Huevos Rancheros he had. Our newfound place to go when we visit again.

We stopped here during 4th of July weekend. Dont miss out on this hidden gem! And definitely dont skip their churro! They are closed for indoor dining but they have picnic tables out back as well as a couple smaller tables indoors. Decent portions. Lots of flavor! Friendly staff.

We didn't get chips with our food. No one told us to grab some. I even ordered guacamole but we didn't have chips. The burrito was okay.

Coffee is free, food is amazing, the taste is like real mexican food, the staff is very friendly I recommend this place to anyone looking for a good taco joint.

More expensive than most taqueria’s, but at the same time not that flavorful or delicious. Taco’s are mediocre at best. Not worth the 30 minute wait. On the plus side the Jaimaica was refreshing.

Very good Mexican food!

I usually never leave reviews but this was the most disappointing meal i have ever eaten. Watered down salsa, dry chips that had sat beneath a heat lamp about 3 days too long, and plenty of bone chips in the al pastor. Whoever gave this place a good rating must eat dog food on a normal basis.

I just want to live in this place. It’s so good. The homemade salsa is amazing.

The food was delicious. The staff was professional and helpful. The atmosphere was laid back and casual. The salsa bar was great and properly labeled. There is nothing fancy about this place but the food was excellent. I would definitely recommend and I will definitely return.

Tahoe is becoming crazy with tourists. I get that, but when you can't get in for breakfast during the week, it can be frustrating.We knew of Jalapenos, but we did not know that they served breakfast.Well, they do! Not only were they the best breakfast burritos we have had, but at $6.50 each, probably the best bargain at SLT!!!

Overall: While it may resemble a "hole in the wall", this taqueria is a great option for those looking for local Mexican cuisine. The good: The service here was great - we rolled in needing a large catering order for 50 tacos, without calling ahead, and they treated us like any other customer. It took 25 minutes or so, but that was expected, and we got to enjoy the free chips and salsa while we waited. The tacos came in convenient catering bins and were warm and ready to eat. Their churros, which were relatively cheap, were incredible! Hot and fresh!The not-so-good: The tacos were not as flavorful as I would've liked, and there was hardly a difference between some of them. They are also bare-bones, you don't get anything outside of the meat and some cilantro. And the guacamole, while great, was on the smaller side.Food/drink: 8/10Atmosphere: 8/10Service: 8/10

If you’re coming from LA or the Southern California area, prepare to be disappointed as this restaurant does not compare. The soft shell tacos are dry and bland. The salsa is extremely watery and lacks flavor. If you want something decent, I suggest you order the enchiladas.

I'm from San Diego so I know good mexican food. Definitely come here best in Tahoe.

Their breakfast burritos are excellent!!! Great portion, good price, and made fast. We tried 3 different kinds (one ham, one sausage, one bacon) and loved every one. Ham was my favorite, but they were truly all delicious. We’ll be back.

Great little Mexican spot. This is definitely a gem in South Lake Tahoe. Salsa bar with awesome flavors and good food!

This is the best restaurant for Mexican food in South Lake Tahoe. Everything is made fresh by skilled cooks. You can't get more authentic then here.
